When Michael Edwards named his dog after Roberto Firmino in his farewell letter, it was more than a nod to sentiment. It was an acknowledgement of one of Liverpool’s greatest modern signings, a player whose combination of flair and selflessness made him a cult hero at Anfield. As Anfield Watch report, Edwards’ return to Liverpool could bring back that same level of ingenuity in the transfer market, and there is already a suggestion of where he might look next.
Firmino’s journey from Hoffenheim to Merseyside is well-documented. He arrived with promise rather than star power, yet became the glue that bound Jürgen Klopp’s system together. Edwards and his team identified his potential using a blend of data and scouting intuition, a process that looks set to be repeated.
The name being linked to Liverpool is Bazoumana Toure, a 19-year-old Ivorian winger who joined Hoffenheim from Hammarby in January. “Bazoumana Toure, you’ve never heard of him right? Well, we wouldn’t blame you,” the original article notes.

Toure’s adaptation to German football has been swift. Two assists in his first four Bundesliga games only tell part of the story. His underlying metrics are exceptional, with data showing he is the fastest player in the league, clocking over 36 km/h, while also topping the dribble charts with 11 successful take-ons after three rounds.
Liverpool’s need for wingers is no secret, particularly with Luis Diaz departing in the summer and Mohamed Salah entering the latter stages of his career. Toure’s profile makes him an enticing prospect. He is left-footed, predominantly plays off the left but is comfortable on the right, and thrives in one-v-one situations. His versatility could make him a key asset for Arne Slot’s evolving attacking structure.
Even in Hoffenheim’s 4-1 defeat to Bayern Munich, Toure impressed, completing three dribbles, winning three fouls and winning more duels than any other player on the pitch. Performances like these are exactly what Liverpool’s recruitment department would be tracking.

Liverpool have rarely been afraid to make an early move for a player whose numbers align with their tactical needs. Toure’s output in chance creation and expected assists places him among the top young creators in the Bundesliga. For a club that prides itself on spotting talent before the wider market catches on, this feels like a familiar storyline.
The suggestion from Anfield Watch that Liverpool could revisit Hoffenheim for their next big attacking signing is not far-fetched. The template is there, the profile is there, and Edwards’ eye for the right player at the right time has rarely missed.
As Liverpool fans, we can’t help but get excited when a player like Toure starts getting mentioned in connection with the club. There is something about the idea of another smart, data-driven signing that appeals to supporters who watched Firmino transform the way Liverpool played. The fact that Toure has already shown he can compete physically in the Bundesliga is crucial. We have seen before how Edwards’ team have targeted players with the right mentality and work rate, and Toure looks like someone who relishes the challenge.
Supporters will also appreciate that he is not a one-dimensional winger. Being comfortable on either flank could be vital, especially with Slot looking to build a fluid front line. There is always a temptation to draw comparisons with Firmino, but what matters most is that Liverpool continue to find players who fit the system. If Toure is indeed on the radar, it would not be surprising to see the club move sooner rather than later, particularly before his value soars. Liverpool fans will watch this one closely because they know how these stories can end – with another favourite gracing the Kop.
