Newly crowned Serie A champions Inter are reportedly weighing up an audacious summer swoop for Manchester City star Phil Foden. According to Calciomercato.it, the 25-year-old could be a realistic option for the Nerazzurri in the upcoming transfer window.
It’s no secret that Inter are keen to sign Nico Paz, who has enjoyed a meteoric rise at Como since arriving from Real Madrid in 2024. However, Los Merengues boast an affordable €8 million buyback clause and are reportedly eager to exercise that option in the summer.
Therefore, Inter are likely to miss out on the Argentine’s signature, even though vice-president Javier Zanetti remains hopeful of bringing his compatriot to Giuseppe Meazza. Meanwhile, manager Cristian Chivu plans to alter Inter’s trademark 3-5-2 formation and switch to a 3-4-2-1 setup.
With that in mind, Inter will try to sign a versatile forward in the summer after their relentless pursuit of Ademola Lookman fell short a year ago. Paz remains a dream target, but the Nerazzurri could make an ambitious bid for Foden, whose long-term future at the Etihad Stadium is hanging in the balance.
Foden has tumbled down the pecking order after the arrivals of Antonie Semenyo and Rayan Cherki. Indeed, Pep Guardiola has handed the English forward just 22 Premier League starts this season.
Furthermore, Foden’s contract runs out in 2027, and the player has yet to sign a new deal. A lack of first-team opportunities could increase the likelihood of his summer exit.
Though that could boost Inter’s hopes of making Foden their marquee summer signing, there’s little doubt that this transfer would require a monumental financial effort from the Serie A giants.
In addition to Man City’s likely hefty asking price, Foden’s wages could prove a major stumbling block for the Nerazzurri, who rarely commit to blockbuster deals of this magnitude.
