Inter Milan have reportedly opened talks with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez over a potential switch to San Siro.

According to Corriere della Sera via FCInter1908, the Nerazzurri are keen to sign the 33-year-old as a replacement for the outgoing Yann Sommer.

There’s no longer any doubt. Yann Sommer will leave Giuseppe Meazza at the end of the season.

Indeed, the Serie A heavyweights have no intention of renewing his expiring contract.

Therefore, they’re scouring the market for a suitable replacement .

Despite his household status at Villa Park, Emiliano Martinez has recently made a series of uncharacteristic mistakes.

As such, he is no longer indispensable in Birmingham and could sever ties with the Lions after six years.

Though he’d be an ideal replacement for Sommer, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner would only be a short-term solution for the Nerazzurri.

On top of that, Martinez’s substantial salary at Aston Villa means he would likely have to take a pay cut to facilitate his move to Serie A.
