Serie A giants Inter Milan have reportedly taken concrete steps to secure the services of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
According to Sky Sport via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri held their first meeting with the Argentine star’s agent to discuss the deal.
Inter have been in the market for a new short-stopper for months as they won’t extend Yann Sommer’s contract.
Therefore, the 36-year-old Swiss ace will leave San Siro as a free agent at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, backup keeper Josep Martinez has failed to live up to expectations.

Noah Atubolu and Elia Caprile have been on Inter’s shortlist since the beginning of the season.
However, the Serie A pacesetters have switched their attention toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup winner.
Indeed, Emiliano Martinez could leave Aston Villa in the summer, especially after a noticeable dip in form.
Martinez earns around €6 million net per season.
On the other hand, Inter are ready to offer him €4 million, meaning he’ll need to take a pay cut to complete his transfer to San Siro.
