Serie A title hopefuls Inter Milan have received a huge fitness boost ahead of their blockbuster clash against Roma as Nicolo Barella edges closer to returning to full fitness.

According to Corriere dello Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the Italy international returned to training yesterday and should be ready to face Ivan Juric’s side on October 20.

Nicolo Barella picked up an ankle injury during September’s Derby della Madonnina clash against AC Milan.

Therefore, he was absent as Simone Inzaghi’s side strung together a three-match winning streak in all competitions before October’s international break.

However, Inzaghi will likely have his talismanic midfielder fit and ready for the upcoming trip to the Stadio Olimpico.

Indeed, Barella has seemingly overcome his ankle problem and will probably regain full fitness in a fortnight.

Sidelined by the injury, the former Cagliari starlet failed to make Luciano Spalletti’s Italy squad for October’s call-up.

His international teammates will play Belgium and Israel in pivotal UEFA Nations League matches over the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, he’ll use that time to recover and make himself available to Inzaghi.

Inter Milan Handed Major Fitness Boost Ahead of Roma Clash As Nicolo Barella Returns to Training

Barella has been instrumental over the past few years. He has been the beating heart of Inzaghi’s midfield set-up.

With Inter taking a trip to the capital, Inzaghi will be pleased to have his standout midfielder back in the fold.

After a stuttering Serie A start under Daniele De Rossi, Roma are back on track under Ivan Juric.

They’ve picked up seven out of the nine available points under the former Torino manager.

It should set them up nicely for this fixture. Yet, Inter, with Barella, are a different team.

Even in his absence, Inzaghi’s charges have won back-to-back league games against Udinese and Torino.

But now that he’s on the verge of recovery, Inter can feel more comfortable about this encounter.
