Credit to Gazzetta dello Sport for igniting a debate that feels both improbable and strangely inevitable. Juventus, according to their report, are considering a move for Liverpool’s long standing No 1, Alisson Becker. It is the sort of story that demands reflection rather than reaction.
Alisson has been a pillar of Liverpool’s modern success. Signed in 2018 for a world record fee at the time, he justified every pound. One hundred and thirty nine clean sheets in 327 appearances, medals that include the Champions League and two Premier League titles, and a catalogue of saves that seem to defy physics. He has, as many have said, been the best one v one goalkeeper in the world.
Yet time, as it does for every footballer, has begun to whisper. At 33, with a contract running until 2027, Liverpool may be approaching a crossroads. The signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili feels less like opportunism and more like succession planning.
Contracts shape careers as much as talent. With two years left on his deal by the summer, this could represent Liverpool’s final opportunity to secure a meaningful fee. Modern football is ruthless in its logic. Sentiment rarely balances the books.
From Juventus’ perspective, the report suggests the option has “opened up”. They are said to be weighing up Alisson against Guglielmo Vicario of Tottenham Hotspur. Youth leans towards Vicario, pedigree tilts towards Alisson.
Serie A has watched many of its finest talents migrate elsewhere. A return of a goalkeeper of Alisson’s stature would send a message across Europe.
The speculation does not end with Alisson. Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson are also cited as players who could consider their futures. For Liverpool supporters, that trio represents an era defined by resilience and relentless excellence.

Transitions of this scale are rarely painless. They demand clarity of vision from the hierarchy and courage from the coaching staff. Liverpool have refreshed before and thrived. Doing so again would require precision rather than nostalgia.
Juventus may yet decide on a younger profile. Liverpool may stand firm. For now, what Juventus FC are contemplating forces a broader question at Liverpool FC, how do you replace certainty in a position built on instinct and trust?
From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this report lands with mixed emotion. Alisson has been more than a goalkeeper, he has been a safeguard against chaos. His saves in Madrid, his late header at West Brom, his command of the penalty area, these are not minor footnotes, they are defining moments.
If Juventus are serious, the fee would need to reflect both quality and leadership. Yet fans will ask whether Mamardashvili is truly ready to shoulder that burden immediately. Succession planning is admirable, but replacing an elite keeper is not like rotating a midfielder.
There is also the psychological impact. If Salah and Robertson are contemplating exits too, that signals a cultural reset. Liverpool have navigated change before, but rarely with so many pillars at once.
Are Liverpool shaping the next great side, or reacting to circumstances? The answer will shape the next chapter at Anfield, and perhaps determine whether this summer becomes one of renewal or regret.
