Casemiro will leave Manchester United at the end of the season, with Major League Soccer understood to be a potential destination. As reported by The Telegraph, the Brazilian midfielder has confirmed his departure when his contract expires, with United opting not to trigger a one year extension clause worth in excess of £300,000 per week.

The 34 year old, who was recently on holiday in Miami, is open to exploring opportunities in the United States. MLS operates a centralised salary system, with designated players falling outside the standard cap, a mechanism that has enabled high profile arrivals in recent years.
Despite his impending exit, Casemiro’s performances have drawn praise from Michael Carrick. The United head coach believes the midfielder remains capable of operating at the highest level, raising the possibility that he could face United in the Premier League or European competition next season.
“I’m sure he can, he’s playing as good a level as he’s played at for some time at the moment, and it’s great to see in so many ways,” Carrick said. “The experience, technically, game understanding, just composure in certain moments, he’s in a really good place.

“I’ve got to say, Cas has been fantastic since I came really, on and off the pitch. Experience is a great thing if you use it in the right way, and again, I think over time being a senior player here is almost the responsibility of the example, and helping the younger players, helping the rest of the boys, and passing on your experiences in a positive way. He’s been top since I came, in so many ways, and he’s been a pleasure to work with.”
Those words underline the professional regard in which he is held internally.
Inter Miami’s recruitment of Lionel Messi accelerated global attention on MLS, following earlier spells in the league for David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. For Casemiro, lifestyle and family considerations may carry weight alongside competitive ambition.
His four years at Old Trafford have included silverware and fluctuating form. This season, however, he has rediscovered consistency, setting standards in training and stabilising midfield structure.

United’s decision not to activate the extension reflects broader squad planning rather than dissatisfaction with contribution. Renewal remains central to the club’s strategy.
Casemiro’s next step will be shaped by timing and fit. MLS presents one pathway. Europe may offer another. What is certain is that his Manchester United chapter is nearing its conclusion.
Casemiro’s departure will evoke mixed emotions. His arrival brought pedigree and authority. In decisive fixtures, his positioning and leadership were invaluable.
Many fans will understand the decision not to extend a high value contract into a player’s mid thirties. Squad evolution demands tough calls. Yet there is appreciation for how he has conducted himself, particularly this season.
Carrick’s comments resonate. Casemiro has influenced younger players and maintained standards. That matters in a transitional period.
If he chooses MLS, supporters will wish him well. If he remains in Europe, facing him could be uncomfortable. Either way, his professionalism leaves a positive impression. United must now identify the next midfield leader capable of blending composure with competitiveness.
