Karim Adeyemi is finally set to take centre stage at FC Barcelona after spending several days waiting for the formal announcement of his move from Borussia Dortmund.
The German winger arrived in Barcelona last Wednesday, completed his medical examinations a day later and has already met Hansi Flick at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.
According to SPORT, Joan Laporta and Deco are returning from the United States this Monday after attending the World Cup, and Adeyemi’s signing is expected to be made official once they are back.
The transfer agreement has already been completed, meaning there is no concern over the operation itself.
Barcelona will pay Borussia Dortmund €22 million as a fixed fee, plus another €7 million in variables linked to titles and appearances.
The German club will also retain 20 per cent of any future transfer fee, while Adeyemi is expected to sign a five-year contract worth around €6 million net per season.
His presentation should take place between Tuesday and Wednesday, after which he can finally begin training properly under Flick.
That could even put him in contention for minutes in Friday’s friendly against Europa before Barcelona travel to England for their pre-season camp.
Adeyemi is expected to provide cover for Lamine Yamal, but his versatility means he can operate in all three attacking positions.
That flexibility should be especially useful for Flick, who already knows the winger well after giving him his Germany debut.
Former Dortmund coach Niko Kovac has already acknowledged what his team will lose.
He said:
“Karim had his strengths, that’s clear. What we will undoubtedly lose is speed. With his speed, we could create dangerous situations.”
Kovac also confirmed Adeyemi had already said goodbye to his teammates, adding:
“We wished him all the best, we hope everything goes well for him, and we trust that it will.”
For Barcelona, the wait is almost over. Adeyemi is in the city, the agreement is closed, and Flick is ready to start working with him.
Once the official announcement arrives, Barca can turn their full attention towards their next major objective: finally securing the centre-forward they still need.
