Inter Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu is in line for his first Serie A start since early January as the Nerazzurri take on Fiorentina on Sunday.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the 32-year-old could return to the starting lineup for the first time since Inter’s home draw against Napoli.
Recurring fitness problems have marred Hakan Calhanoglu at the beginning of the new calendar year.
Indeed, he suffered a calf injury against the Partenopei at the start of January, forcing him to stay on the sidelines for nearly two months.
Despite featuring in last month’s Derby d’Italia, it only aggravated his condition, as he had to skip the last two Serie A games.
Calhanoglu was reportedly desperate to play against Atalanta last weekend, only for Cristian Chivu to turn down his request.
Indeed, the Nerazzurri manager didn’t want to put his talismanic playmaker at risk.
However, the former AC Milan midfielder has regained full fitness now and will be in contention for the starting XI against Fiorentina.
With Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the pits, Piotr Zielinski could take the Armenian’s place now that Calhanoglu is ready to re-embrace his role again.
