Como head coach Cesc Fabregas turned down Inter Milan’s transfer approach in the summer, pledging his loyalty to the Lariani.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio via FCInterNews, Como gave the 38-year-old ‘€150 million’ reasons to decline Inter’s approach.

Inter Milan had initially identified the Spanish manager as an ideal long-term replacement for Simone Inzaghi, who joined Al-Hilal in June.

However, after being rebuffed by the former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder, they turned to Cristian Chivu.

Fabregas’ rejection could still prove a blessing in disguise for the Nerazzurri, especially considering Chivu’s impressive managerial start at San Siro.

Meanwhile, the Spaniard has picked up where he left off last season. Indeed, he has inspired Como to a strong start in Serie A.

With only one defeat after the opening 12 rounds, Fabregas’ men have emerged as genuine European contenders this season.

Still, that’s nothing less than Como had expected when they handed their boss a substantial transfer budget in the summer.

Despite promising to provide Fabregas with a monstrous war chest, Como failed to live up to their promise.

Indeed, the club completed several decent signings in the summer but never came close to reaching the promised figure.

However, it was enough for Fabregas to decline several tempting offers.

In addition to Inter, Roma were also keen to lure him away from Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia after parting ways with Claudio Ranieri.

Yet, after being turned down, the Giallorossi appointed Gian Piero Gasperini as their new head coach.

“During the summer, 150 million euros had been promised to Fabregas for the transfer market,” Di Marzio explained.

“However, Como didn’t come close to that figure.

“Now we all understand better why he said no first to Roma and then to Inter, even though the narrative afterward was different.”
