Pedro Neto is the latest Chelsea player to be rewarded with a new contract.

Following the closure of the 2026 summer transfer window on September 1, the Chelsea leadership team has stayed busy off the pitch, handing out first-team contracts.

After the contract extensions handed to Moises Caicedo in the first half of the year and, more recently, Joao Pedro, Chelsea have continued to reward those at Stamford Bridge as a sign of cohesion between the two parties.

Sanctioning the departure of Enzo Fernandez for a British-record fee of £125 million, despite missing out on AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, has shown new boss Xabi Alonso and Chelsea that they only want players who are committed to the club and willing to buy into the philosophy that has been established both on and off the pitch.

Despite interest from Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Saudi Arabia over the summer, one player who did commit his future to Stamford Bridge is Portuguese international Pedro Neto. The 26-year-old signed a new long-term deal that will keep him at the club until 2032.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea handed Neto a new contract as a reward, citing three key reasons for extending his time with the Blues.

Firstly, the club highlighted his recent performances as a reason why he was rewarded with fresh terms. Under new boss Xabi Alonso, the winger has had to adapt to a new position, which has seen him become more of a wing-back. Scoring two goals in the opening month of the new campaign highlights just how pivotal he can be.

As Alonso’s tactical set-up relies on more wing-backs who can both attack and defend, Neto has had to adapt his game to cover all bases. With both Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer occupying the attacking positions, room for the winger has slightly decreased. However, in the 3-4-3 setup, the 26-year-old can still operate as a winger but now has to contribute more defensively.

Secondly, Neto’s behaviour has been earmarked as another reason for his new deal. Despite reportedly being heavily linked with other clubs, he continued to train and play as normal. The same could not be said of Fernandez, who made sure his transfer to Manchester City went through before the transfer deadline.

Lastly, the Portuguese star has been rewarded for his loyalty to the club. After joining from Wolves in 2024 for a fee in the region of £50 million, Neto has built a reputation as a ‘big-game player’. Notably, his first Premier League goal for Chelsea came against Arsenal as the Blues came from behind to settle for a 1-1 draw. His biggest moment so far was the winner away to Fulham in 2025, which revived Chelsea’s hopes of finishing in the Champions League places.

With Chelsea still in Carabao Cup action as well as the Premier League, it is important for the club that Pedro Neto continues his early-season form. With two fixtures left before the international break, maintaining that momentum will be key.
