Inter Milan have decided against pursuing Emiliano Martinez despite speculation surrounding the Aston Villa goalkeeper’s future.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, the Aston Villa star is likely to leave Unai Emery’s side next summer, but a move to the Nerazzurri will not happen.

The newspaper explains that Martinez does not fit the profile Inter want under Oaktree’s ownership.

His name has circulated on the market and agents have proposed him to several clubs.

Inter, however, have chosen a different direction. The club continue to prioritise age, sustainability and long-term planning.

For that reason, Inter have focused on another target. The preferred name is Guglielmo Vicario, a player the club have followed closely for months.

Inter view the former Empoli goalkeeper as the ideal successor to Yann Sommer. Age plays a key role in that assessment. Vicario is 29, while Martinez is 33.

Motivation also factors heavily into Inter’s thinking. Vicario already came close to joining the Nerazzurri before his move to Tottenham.

At the time, Inter showed strong interest. Spurs, however, moved faster and closed the deal quickly, meeting both Empoli’s demands and the goalkeeper’s expectations.

That episode still carries weight. Inter have not forgotten Vicario and continue to see him as the right profile for the next cycle in goal.

Martinez’s name may resurface in transfer rumours, but Inter’s stance remains firm.

The club are planning for the future, and their strategy points clearly away from the Argentine and towards a younger solution.
