The Real Federación Española de Fútbol is revamping 'Tiempo de Revisión' this season, installing artificial intelligence to select the most contentious incidents for weekly review.
The Comité Técnico de Árbitros said the system will automatically pinpoint the incidents with the greatest refereeing relevance in Primera División, Segunda División and Liga F. Referees will then assess them in a refreshed format featuring more graphics, explanatory images and plainer language. The body will also be able to add any clip of educational value not detected by the technology.
Launched in 2025/26, the programme set out to bring refereeing closer to fans, players and coaches through clear explanations of disputed moments. Until now, a panel of former coaches and ex-footballers chose which clips to examine. The change aims to deliver a more objective and transparent selection process.
Despite a positive start, the show has not been without controversy. Some within the game have challenged why certain incidents were highlighted while others, equally contentious, were omitted.
The new series will begin a few weeks after the league starts, owing to the fragmented calendar of the first matchday. It returns seeking to strengthen credibility and present a level of transparency not previously seen in Spanish football.
