Rhys Walsh has rejoined Glentoran on a long-term deal after leaving Sunderland at the end of his contract.
According to Sunderland Echo, the Northern Irish winger moved to Wearside from the East Belfast club in February 2024 and played regularly for the U18 and U21 sides. Sunderland confirmed in May that he would depart this summer.
He returns to the club where he made his senior debut aged 17 during the 2023/24 campaign.
In his first interview since rejoining, Walsh said the return felt special, calling Glentoran the place he grew up, developed and first stepped into senior football, and saying it means a great deal to him and his family.
He expressed gratitude for his spell at Sunderland, saying the daily training and playing environment improved him and that he returns a better player. Now back home, his focus is on Glentoran, which he feels is the right place to kick on and take his next step.
