Chivas manager Ricardo Cadena has said he is hopeful that the club can land Orbelín Pineda ahead of the 2022 Apertura.
The Mexico international midfielder has failed to secure a first-team spot at Celta Vigo since joining from Cruz Azul in January, and is on the lookout for regular football in advance of the World Cup in Qatar.
The Flock have been trying to convince the player to join, but time is running out with the start of the season just days away.
“We still hope that Orbelín can decide, that he would be one of the incorporations that we have been requesting,” Cadena told a press conference on Tuesday.
“I have not had communication with him, but I am aware every day. It is going to be a very short tournament and our demand, if given, be as soon as possible.”
Cadena was also asked about rumours of Espanyol interest in winger Alexis Vega.
“I feel that Alexis is super integrated, committed. Today, more than ever, he is in a position where he is highly motivated, which is a World Cup year, which is an option for our team,” he said.
“He is enthusiastic about starting the tournament, seeking to be the protagonist with the entire club.”
Chivas will open their campaign with a home date against Juárez on Saturday.
