Richard Hughes may be about to leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season but, that doesn't mean that he can slack off this summer.

The Englishman has already got a deal for Victor Munoz over the line and, with the amount of players that Liverpool are being linked with, it doesn't feel like it'll be too long before their next signing is announced.

However, since their title rivals such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal are also in the market for new players, there's a lot of work that still needs to be done.

But, since we're now a few weeks into the summer window, you'd have hoped for a bit more movement on Liverpool's end.

Transfers have obviously already been made and, even though they may seem insignificant in ways, one of the deals that Hughes has confirmed could already be the best of Liverpool's window.

Liverpool letting Ibrahima Konate leave could have been their best-possible move

Although Liverpool would have wanted to get some sort of transfer fee for Ibrahima Konate's exit, it feels like his departure could be massively important.

Even though the defender has been Virgil van Dijk's partner for as long as anyone can remember, the amount of mistakes he made last season was mind-boggling.

A lot of the Reds' defeats came at the hands of the Frenchman and, without him among their ranks, Liverpool would have probably done much better.

Konate's departure also gives the Anfield outfit the chance to develop Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet further which wouldn't have been possible if Konate was still around.

Indeed, Joe Gomez is among the options that Andoni Iraola has to choose from but, if the last few transfer windows are anything to go by, the Englishman is bound to be linked with an exit at some point this summer and, since he's 29 years old now, it could be sanctioned.

So, even though Liverpool may only have four senior centre-backs to choose from this term, the exit of Konate could have been exactly what they needed to happen.

One of the main reasons behind Liverpool's lack of movement this summer is the World Cup.

The tournament has been the main thing on the players' minds and, now that it's coming to an end, silly season could be upon us once again.

However, England's 6-4 win against France on Saturday proved once again that Konate is majorly accident prone.

The centre-back started the game for his country after William Saliba was ruled out due to injury.

Most people expected England to be pummelled by their European rivals but, in reality, it was the other way around.

The Three Lions went 4-0 up in the first half with Konate's positioning and defensive work miles off the standard expected.

As per Sofascore, Konate was a shambles defensively as he only won 25 per cent of the ground duels he attempted and he committed two fouls.

The defender also lost possession of the ball four times and only had 27 touches of the ball during the 45 minutes he was on the pitch.

These statistics coupled with the way that he carried himself on the pitch proved that Liverpool getting rid of him could be one of their best moves of the window, especially if they manage to sign an even better player to replace him.
