Richard Hughes has an obvious next transfer to make for his forward line.

Liverpool are embarking on an exciting but at the same time very difficult rebuild. We're at the precipice of a new era at Anfield, however we've not yet completely moved on from the past.

Remnants of Jurgen Klopp remain. Those remnants will eventually fade away in the coming years. Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk will be moving on.

For the former it could be as early as January. The latter will likely see out the two year extension he signed in the summer.

But moving forward Liverpool's attack will be built on Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.

Hughes will be adding more pieces to those options. He'll want to replace Salah and long-term Federico Chiesa is another player who Liverpool will want to move on.

In the interest of Ekitike and Isak, Hughes will also want to bring in a forward. Even after spending so much money on the summer in new forwards, it does feel like Slot could use an extra option.

And this is where Mohamed Kader Meite comes in.

At just 18-years-old, he's one of the most exciting young forwards in Europe's top five leagues. A product of the impressive Rennes academy that has produced Eduardo Camavinga, Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele in recent years, Meite looks like the next teenage superstar from the production line.

He has 4 goals and 2 assists this season in just 479 minutes spent on the pitch. That's a goal or assist every 79.8 minutes, which is a fantastic return for a player so young.

Physically, Meite is already very developed. He's a tall figure with a powerful body and he shrugs off opponents very easily.

He's strong in the air and he dominates inside the opposition's penalty area. Quite quick, he latches onto loose balls and crosses with ease making him a really terrifying opponent.

The fact that he's already capable of bully defenders at such a young age bodes really well for him.

He can hold the play up really well and he's very good at bringing his teammates back into action. A player of his profile is ideal both for a quick transition team or for a team who play against a low-block, where Meite can make a difference and find those openings even in tight spaces.

But he's not just a target man and he's not one dimensional.

He's got way more under his locker. Technically he's a very good player with a great first touch and the ability to takes players on in one vs one situations.

In his career he has averaged three dribbles per 90 minutes and has succeeded in 50% of his attempts.

That's a decent return and it shows that he's more than just a player you target in the air. He can receive with his feet, use his strength to hold players off and also to shield the ball when he's running with it and carrying it forward.

Overall, he's got everything to be the perfect player for Liverpool in this current system. And that's why it just feels like given what Liverpool need and are going to be looking for in their next no.9 that Meite will be Hughes' next signing in that department.

He's pretty much perfect for the role.
