Tottenham have told Richarlison they cannot loan him to Vasco because FIFA rules cap loans to clubs in other federations.

According to Globo.com, the limit is six such loans, a mark Tottenham already reach.

They currently have seven players out, six outside England, namely Pape Matar Sarr and Vicario at Juventus, Dragusin at Fiorentina, Souza at Porto, Takai at Sint-Truiden and Min-hyeok Yang at KVC Westerlo. Kevin Danso is at Sunderland, which is within the English federation and does not count.

FIFA’s exceptions apply only to players aged up to 21 who are club trained for three seasons between ages 15 and 21. None of Tottenham’s loanees fit that category.

Richarlison was informed on Tuesday afternoon. A declared Vasco supporter, he had accepted the idea of playing for the São Januário club after the approach.

Vasco fans have mobilised on social media in recent days. Richarlison is training with Tottenham to maintain fitness while his future is decided. His deal runs until June 2027, allowing a pre-contract from December.
