Tottenham Hotspur gave themselves a significant boost in their bid for Premier League survival by coming from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at Liverpool on Sunday.
Ravaged by injuries and suspensions, Spurs travelled to Anfield with a depleted squad but gave a good account of themselves early on.
Nonetheless, Igor Tudor’s side fell behind in the 18th minute to a stunning free-kick from Dominik Szoboszlai, although Guglielmo Vicario did not cover himself in glory on his return to the starting XI in place of Antonin Kinsky.
Liverpool’s opener sparked a spell of dominance, and the Reds looked set to cruise to all three points against a Spurs side hanging on for dear life.
Still trailing by a goal heading into the closing stages, Tottenham began to assert themselves more, although they increasingly risked conceding a second due to the spaces left behind.
Liverpool introduced Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike just past the hour mark in a bid to kill the game off, and while both got into promising positions, a second goal for the hosts remained elusive.
As the game entered its final 10 minutes, tension grew around Anfield—unsurprising given Liverpool’s recent habit of conceding late goals.
The home crowd’s fears were realised in the final minute of stoppage time, as sloppy defending from Andrew Robertson allowed Randal Kolo Muani to feed Richarlison, who finished beyond Alisson at the fifth attempt.
That was the Brazilian’s sixth goal against Liverpool, with five of those coming at Anfield.
Spurs have now halted a six-game losing streak in all competitions, and while they remain without a league win in 2026, the North Londoners will be pleased to have moved a point clear of the drop zone, somewhat easing the pressure on their underfire interim manager.
Liverpool, meanwhile, missed the chance to draw level on points with Villa in fourth, but the Reds have leapfrogged Chelsea into fifth.
