Richarlison ‘to invoke’ FIFA rule in bid to end Tottenham deal | OneFootball

According to The Times, Richarlison is exploring the use of a FIFA regulation to try to terminate his Tottenham contract, with his lawyers assessing a clause that permits exit on just cause for sporting reasons in cases of limited playing time.

His position deteriorated after Roberto De Zerbi left him out of the 25-man Premier League squad. He has also been training away from the first team.

FIFA’s Article 15 allows a player to end a deal on sporting just cause if he appears in under 10% of his club’s matches in a season.

So far this campaign he has started only one of the first four Tottenham fixtures. The small sample means any attempt to apply the clause is still being evaluated by his legal team.

Richarlison expressed a wish to leave during pre-season, and De Zerbi confirmed the conversation, saying the forward told him he wanted to move on.

His contract runs to next summer and the club hold an option to extend. He joined in 2022 from Everton for £60 million. He has scored 32 in 134 Tottenham matches, including 11 in the Premier League last season.

Interest has arrived from elsewhere, including an informal £20 million approach from Trabzonspor, while Tottenham valued him at around £35 million in a possible negotiation involving Everton. Vasco are among Brazilian clubs to have shown interest, but no permanent offer deemed acceptable has been received.

Everton also made a proposal before the Premier League window shut, which he rejected, and he remained with Tottenham.
