Albert Riera has hit back at Eintracht Frankfurt after criticism from board member Axel Hellmann, further inflaming a public dispute.
Riera was dismissed as head coach at the end of the 2025/26 season after about three months in charge. He was “surprised by how little he was willing to familiarise himself with the Bundesliga, this club and the entire environment around it”, Hellmann said in an interview with FAZ.
The Spaniard responded with an emotional Instagram post that was later deleted. In it, he said only he and board member for sport Markus Krösche worked from morning to night to fix problems on and off the pitch.
Riera also aimed at an unnamed figure, branding them a nobody, questioning why they are paid by the club, and stating that if they spoke about him, he would respond in kind.
He depicted Eintracht as a ghost during his tenure, claiming no president or directors were present, accusing some of appearing only in good moments and speaking late and behind, and expressing a wish for the club to find people who understand the game to build a great football history.
Adi Hütter has since been appointed as his successor.
