Rio Mavuba extends at Bordeaux despite provisional exclusion from national competitions

Rio Mavuba has extended his tenure as Bordeaux head coach for next season, amid uncertainty over the club’s participation in national competitions.

Bordeaux announced the decision. Mavuba joined the club last year and took over in March 2026 after his predecessor Bruno Irles was suspended.

The former France international, capped 13 times, does not yet know which competition he will coach in. The DNCG excluded the club on 30 June after they failed to provide nine million euros, and at best they would restart in Régional 1, the sixth tier.

The club have appealed to avoid another administrative relegation and to resume in National, the new name of the fourth division.

The appeal hearing is scheduled for 15 July.
