Ritsu Doan has turned down a €17m move to Al-Ittihad, opting to stay with Eintracht Frankfurt. Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports the Japan international has rejected the offer and is already travelling back to Frankfurt.
The reversal came only hours after Kicker reported that Eintracht and Al-Ittihad had agreed a €17m fee, with only final formalities outstanding. Those formalities will not be completed.
Frankfurt had reluctantly cleared a sale despite Adi Hütter keeping the attacker in his plans. Eintracht paid approximately €21m to sign Doan from SC Freiburg last summer and were prepared to accept a loss of around €4m to raise urgently needed funds.
Even so, Doan was expected to play a significant role under Hütter this season after a turbulent 2025/26 in which he struggled to match his Freiburg level.
The proposed move was driven by finances rather than a desire to move the 28-year-old on. Eintracht now retain a player they had been planning to keep involved.
