After a relatively easy run through the first three games of the season, Real Madrid begin a more challenging set of games beginning against Real Sociedad tomorrow evening.
Up ahead is the team’s first UEFA Champions League clash of the season against Marseille, followed by difficult challenges against Espanyol, Levante, and finally Atletico Madrid in La Liga.
The clash against Diego Simeone’s side in the derby, needless to say, is the most difficult fixture in the foreseeable future and it now appears that the men in white may have a slight advantage owing to a development in the rival camp.
As confirmed by MARCA in a recent report, Atletico Madrid’s Thiago Almada will miss the Madrid derby through injury in what comes as a massive blow to Los Rojiblancos’ plans.
The Argentine midfielder suffered the setback while on duty with his national team in the final round of the World Cup qualifiers. He now faces a muscular injury in his right leg and will be out for a few weeks at least.

Needless to say, this comes as positive news to the Real Madrid camp given that Almada is a vital part of the Colchoneros’ midfield and his absence will hand the men in white a psychological and possible sporting boost on the night.
The 24-year-old joined the club only this summer and has played a part in all three of Atletico Madrid’s games so far as a starter and standout performer.
With him out, Real Madrid can remain confident in dominating the midfield with more ease, especially given how confident they have looked in the department so far.
From Xabi Alonso’s point of view, however, the manager will look to win the game without any favours extended from the rival camp. After all, his team has the quality to take all three points with no additional assistance.
