River are changing tack after a bright start to the window, which brought Aníbal Moreno, Fausto Vera and Matías Viña. Moves for a centre-back, a winger and a striker have since stalled.
According to SuperDepor.com, Marcelo Gallardo and Stefano Di Carlo are pivoting to new targets. Diablito Echeverri is back on the radar with his Girona deal still not finalised, and there could be a renewed push for Gianluca Prestianni.
For now, the only active negotiation concerns Jhohan Romaña. San Lorenzo rejected 2.6 million dollars for 50% of his rights, and River say they will not raise it. Progress may hinge on the player, otherwise they will seek another centre-back.
Up front, the picture has shifted. Maher Carrizo has ruled out joining River, Santiago Andino has been transferred to Greek football, and Tadeo Allende has agreed to continue at Inter Miami, removing another option.
River also await a solution for Paulo Díaz. The Chilean trains in pre-season but did not face Millonarios and will not play Peñarol, as he is outside Gallardo’s plans. He stays until an offer meets his terms, complicated by one of the highest contracts.
Sebastián Boselli has travelled to Spain after being told to find a club, with goalkeeper Ledesma in a similar spot. Fabricio Bustos could yet stay due to the lack of a clear alternative to Gonzalo Montiel, and his involvement against Millonarios was not incidental. If no strong offer arrives he may remain, while the new father wants to stay in Argentina.
