Riyad Mahrez is set to resume his career in Qatar with Al-Shamal. DZfoot reports that the 35-year-old winger has agreed a one-year contract, with an option for a second season.

The Algerian left Al-Ahli and had faced questions over retirement. He has been working in Dubai with a fitness coach ahead of the move. He had also been linked with several European clubs.

A medical is expected on Monday or Tuesday, after which he is due to sign officially, barring a late change.

Mahrez has 119 caps and 40 goals for Algeria, and has said he is finished with the national team following their World Cup elimination.

Al-Shamal sit third in the Qatari league after four rounds and are qualified for the Asian Champions League. Mahrez would join compatriot Baghdad Bounedjah, plus former Lens forward Wesley Saïd and ex-Bordeaux defender Youssouf Sabaly.
