According to ExpressAndStar.com, Rob Edwards has been sacked by Wolves after seven months, and he will not lead them into the upcoming Championship season, with Cesar Peixoto due to take over.
The former Wolves player, academy coach and one-time interim boss arrived on November 12 to replace Vitor Pereira. He left promotion-chasing Middlesbrough for the Premier League’s bottom club, drawing criticism, though the move brought him closer to family and he maintained it was his dream to manage Wolves.
Edwards inherited a side winless in the league and short of belief. There was no bounce, he lost his first seven matches. A point at Old Trafford on December 30 preceded a first win against West Ham.
That draw sparked a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions. Form dipped again before a late February and early March revival, with back-to-back top-flight victories over Villa and Liverpool at Molineux. Wolves then came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Brentford.
Momentum faded after a month’s break as Wolves were beaten 4-0 at West Ham. Including that and the Brentford draw, they ended the campaign winless in eight, losing half. The season closed with a draw at Burnley amid growing discontent.
Despite the noise, Wolves insisted they were backing Edwards. Early summer signings Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez lifted optimism, and Edwards was closely involved in recruitment. His dismissal arrived in the same week, ending his tenure after 211 days and 30 games.
