Roberto de Zerbi and Marseille are preparing for the visit of Newcastle United on Tuesday.

Ahead of that huge Champions League clash, Marseille had a big domestic game against local rivals OGC Nice (when it comes to distances in France, two hours drive to Nice is local, compared to say eight hours drive to Paris!).

Roberto de Zerbi and Marseille could hardly have sent out a bigger warning to Eddie Howe and Newcastle United.

Marseille smashing their ‘local’ rivals 5-1 away from home and going top of Ligue 1 (a point ahead of PSG who have played a game less).

Some familiar former Premier League names involved.

As 36 year old Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring and got two assists, whilst Mason Greenwood scored twice.

Whilst Marseille have a fair few players expected to miss the Newcastle United match, especially in defence, Roberto de Zerbi is expecting one other former Premier League player to be available.

The Marseille boss talking about Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after the win over OGC Nice:

“I gave him two days off because he had a big international break but he will be back in training tomorrow (Saturday).”

“Naturally, it is a good thing.

“It fills us with enthusiasm and it is a moral boost.

“And it is good for the standings (now top of Ligue 1) too.

“It is also important for the game against Newcastle United

“But we need to now put this win (against OGC Nice) aside now and move on.”
