Robin Le Normand joins Spain squad as Eric García withdraws with knee problem | OneFootball

Atlético de Madrid defender Robin Le Normand joined up with the Spain squad on Sunday, replacing Barcelona’s Eric García, who felt discomfort in his left knee before the match against England at Wembley.

After medical tests on García on returning from London, the Spanish federation said he had been released from the squad to avoid any risk and protect the player’s health ahead of upcoming Nations League fixtures. It added no further details, though suggested the issue was minor.

Le Normand returns after Luis de la Fuente omitted him from the last World Cup. He was part of Spain’s Euro 2024-winning side. His last call-up came in October 2025 for World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria, starting at centre-back in both games.

He missed the November window with a knee injury and was not recalled in the months before the World Cup, when De la Fuente paired Pau Cubarsí with Aymeric Laporte at centre-back. With Spain, the French-born defender debuted in June 2023 against Italy and has 27 caps and one goal.

Le Normand will train this afternoon with the group at the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas, preparing for Tuesday’s game against Croatia at the Sánchez Pizjuán in Seville, Spain’s second group match after Wembley.

García’s withdrawal is Spain’s second change of this camp after Tottenham right-back Pedro Porro failed to link up due to injury. Spain also play the Czech Republic in Oviedo on three October, then three days later the return against Croatia in Split.
