On-loan Santos forward Robinho Jr started for Genoa in a 2-0 friendly defeat to Rapid București at the Superbet Arena in Bucharest on Friday. He played the full 90 minutes and wore number 21.
According to Diario Do Peixe, it was his first senior outing since joining a month ago. He had two games for the Primavera, half an hour against Parma then two goals in 85 minutes versus Atalanta.
The season-long loan carries an option to buy set at 8 million euros, around R$ 48 million. Santos initially balked as Genoa wanted to split his R$ 575,000 salary, then the Italians agreed to cover it in full.
He had Italian interest and links to the country from his father Robinho's time at Milan. Sevilla and Rayo Vallecano recently asked about his situation. The number 7 had not played for Santos since July.
His last Santos appearance was as a substitute in the 4-1 win over UCV at Vila Belmiro on 21 July, in the Sudamericana play-off second leg. He has 12 club games this year, five in the Paulista, four in the Brasileiro and three in the Sudamericana. He briefly used the name Juninho in a July friendly, scoring a penalty, then reverted to Robinho Jr.
He made his official debut in the 1-0 win over Flamengo on 16 July in the 14th round of the Brasileirão. He registered one assist in 15 league games last season and has 27 senior appearances and one assist overall. He turns 19 in December and is contracted until 30 March 2031.
