Robinio Vaz, 19, has been subjected to racist abuse on social media shortly after joining Hull City on loan from AS Roma. The club said in a statement it is working with authorities to identify those responsible.
The promoted side is in contact with the Premier League, anti-discrimination body Kick It Out, the relevant social media platforms and Humberside Police, along with other authorities, to track the accounts behind the abuse and seek appropriate action.
The messages emerged two days after his signing and before he has played a match for Hull.
Hull have disabled comments under their statement and removed the forward’s unveiling post, which had been the main target of the discriminatory remarks.
The former Marseille player joined on a loan with an option to buy. He could make his debut on Saturday when Hull host Aston Villa at 18:30 in matchweek three of the Premier League.
