Rodinei and Rollheiser vented on social media after Santos were knocked out of the Copa Sudamericana by Atlético-MG. According to Diario Do Peixe, both addressed supporters following the quarter-final exit.
Santos won the first leg 2-0 at Vila Belmiro, but lost the return 4-2 at Arena MRV. The tie finished 4-4, and Santos lost the shootout 3-1.
Rodinei described the outcome as unbelievable and the most painful defeat of his career. He said he will not drop his head, will fight on in the Brasileiro, thanked fans who sang throughout, and expressed pride in wearing a shirt once worn by Pelé.
Rollheiser said the illusion they shared is over and that it is difficult to digest, but such moments are part of football. He urged the group to lift their heads, prepare with greater strength and meet the shirt’s demands, insisting they remain together until the end.
Both players started in Minas Gerais and, with Gabigol, who posted a short message on Twitter, were the only squad members to take the episode to social media.
Willian Arão and João Schmidt spoke in the mixed zone after the match, while the rest of the group did not comment.
