Rodri was named the 2026 World Cup’s best player on Sunday after Spain beat Argentina 1-0 after extra time.
L'Équipe reports that the Spain captain, 30, controlled midfield throughout the tournament as his side conceded only one goal in eight matches.
Back from a serious knee injury earlier in the season, the former Villarreal player grew in form over recent months and started every Spain match in the United States.
Already named Euro 2024’s best player, he went on to win the Ballon d’Or a few months later. In East Rutherford, at MetLife Stadium, he sealed an individual and team double.
Team-mates Pau Cubarsi, best young player, and Unai Simon, best goalkeeper, were also honoured for their consistency during the tournament.
