Villarreal and Roda will share one and a half million euros from Rodri Hernández’s return to Spanish football after his move from Manchester City to Barcelona.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the transfer is valued at 60 million euros fixed, activating FIFA’s solidarity mechanism that allocates five per cent of international fees to training clubs for seasons between ages 12 and 21.
Rodri spent the 2013/14 campaign with Roda’s Juvenil A side, the first step of his spell in Castellón after leaving Atlético. That single season yields 0.5 per cent of the fee, worth 300,000 euros, a significant sum for a development-focused club.
The larger share belongs to Villarreal. Rodri stayed across the 2014/15 to 2017/18 seasons, graduating from Juvenil A to Villarreal B and the first team. That trajectory entitles the Submarino to two per cent of the deal, equating to 1.2 million euros, before his 2018 departure to Atlético and subsequent rise with Manchester City and Spain.
Rodri Hernández is tied to Barcelona until 2030. The midfielder was the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner and best player at the 2026 World Cup, recently won by Spain. Villarreal and Roda will receive their solidarity sums in line with Barcelona’s payment schedule to Manchester City, with proportional disbursements after each instalment as set out by FIFA.
