Corinthians drew 1-1 with Estudiantes in the Libertadores on Wednesday, Rodrigo Garro supplying a fine pass for Kaio César to score. The assist moved the midfielder clear at the top of this season’s chart.

The Argentine now has five assists, the most in the competition. It was his first in the knockout phase, after four in the group stage.

In the opener against Platense, Garro set up Kayke and Yuri Alberto in a 2-0 win. He then delivered a precise free-kick for Gustavo Henrique to volley the second in the 2-0 victory over Independiente Santa Fé.

Against Peñarol, he again found Gustavo Henrique, sealing another 2-0 success. His latest contribution put him ahead of Flaco Lopez of Palmeiras and Matias Fernández of Independiente Rivadavia, both on four assists.

The assist also ended a month without a goal involvement, his previous one coming on 9 August when he opened the scoring in a 2-0 win over Red Bull Bragantino. Pedro Raul added the second that day.

Before the second leg, Corinthians visit Flamengo, the Brasileirão leaders, at the Maracanã on Sunday at 17:30 in round 26.
