Hopes of sealing Rodrigo Mora’s move to Roma yesterday faded after talks were halted over the obligation-to-buy clause. According to O Jogo, negotiations paused when the sides clashed over the triggers for a permanent deal.

Porto set the package at 50 million euros, with a 10 million loan fee and a 40 million option, plus clauses designed to lead easily to an obligation. The offer also includes performance-related bonuses, a sell-on percentage and Roma covering all wages.

Porto broke off discussions in the early hours of Wednesday after Roma rejected initial triggers, which included Champions League qualification and a set number of appearances, and sought tougher conditions. Those terms did not meet Porto’s expectations and were deemed unacceptable by Villas-Boas.

The mood is tense, though the deal has not collapsed. Jorge Mendes has been mediating, yet there was no contact between the clubs yesterday.

Roma must now decide whether to accept Porto’s demands or at least improve the pathway to an obligation to buy. If not, Mora will remain in the squad, with Farioli saying recently that anyone who stays would get chances given the number of competitions.

While the impasse persists, the midfielder continues to train at Olival and could come into the coach’s plans.
