Rodrygo has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee, and will miss the rest of Real Madrid’s season and the World Cup with Brazil.

The club said in a statement on Tuesday that medical tests confirmed the injuries.

He came on in the 55th minute of Monday’s 0-1 home defeat to Getafe, then underwent examinations on Tuesday morning because of pain in his right knee.

Before that outing, he had not featured since the first of February against Rayo Vallecano, a 2-1 win, and suffered a hamstring injury five days later.

Since Alvaro Arbeloa took charge, the 25-year-old Brazilian has played only three matches.
