Róger Guedes says Corinthians made contact shortly before he extended his Al Rayyan deal in July.

"The team that pushed hardest was Grêmio. We always have very good contact, as with Corinthians. The president, Stabile, also contacted Paulo Pitombeira. But there was no contract put on the table. I have always made it clear I am happy here, my family are too, so I renewed," he told ESPN.

Guedes joined Corinthians in mid-2021 from Shandong Taishan, at a time when the club were investing in high-profile names such as Yuri Alberto, Renato Augusto, Paulinho, Giuliano and Willian.

He made 126 appearances, scoring 43 goals and providing 10 assists for Corinthians. He left in mid-2023, on the eve of the Copa do Brasil semi-final against São Paulo, saying he wanted to fulfil a personal dream in Qatar. Corinthians were eliminated.

In three years in Qatari football he has won the QSL Cup and the Gulf Cup and is in strong form. Al Rayyan lead the Q-League and have renewed his contract for three more years. There has also been speculation he could seek Qatari citizenship to play at the 2030 World Cup.
