Roger Ricort is expected to return to OGC Nice to take charge of the sporting side, signalling a comeback for the club’s former player and director.

According to Nice-Matin, president Maurice Cohen is expected to announce the appointment within hours, though the exact remit has yet to be set. It follows Geoffrey Moncada’s departure before he had even signed, an agreement that had been due on Wednesday.

Ricort, 67, previously served as sporting director from 2005 to 2009 under Cohen, having also played for the Gym. Cohen has maintained strong ties with him. He was contacted on Tuesday about a return that had been under consideration for weeks.

There had been talk of him working alongside Moncada to ease the exits of several high earners, but that scenario was ultimately shelved.

If confirmed, Ricort would be tasked this summer with overhauling much of the current squad and setting a new course after a nightmare season that ended in a relegation play-off.
