Roma and Atalanta released rival statements after a post-match row between sporting director Tony D’Amico and Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi following Roma’s 2-1 win at the Stadio Olimpico.

Ederson had put the visitors ahead before Mario Hermoso and Matias Soulé struck in stoppage time. There was tension at the whistle and Atalanta midfielder Gianluca Gaetano was sent off. Roma said in a statement that they fully support D’Amico over events after the match. The club called Percassi’s conduct towards their executive unacceptable and praised D’Amico’s professionalism in not reacting. Roma added that they will refer the matter to the relevant sporting justice authorities.

Atalanta later issued their own statement, rejecting Roma’s assessment of Percassi. The club said it did not wish to fuel the matter publicly and declared itself available to sporting justice investigations to verify what happened.

Tension was also fuelled by D’Amico having worked for Atalanta until a few weeks ago.
