The January transfer window is upon us, and Gian Piero Gasperini is making no secret of it: “We’ll have to take advantage of it to improve.”
The message is clear: the foundations are in place, but the squad isn’t complete yet. Ferguson’s brace against Celtic won’t be enough to change the Piedmontese coach’s mind after these first four months of struggles in attack.
The favorite remains Zirkzee, for whom negotiations have begun with Manchester United.
However, the Red Devils would prefer a loan with an obligation to buy, while the Giallorossi seem temporarily intent on offering only a loan with an option to buy.
According to today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma and Verona are reportedly in preliminary discussions regarding a swap deal between Baldanzi and Giovane.
The former Empoli player is increasingly gaining ground, and Gasperini has consistently given him playing time in recent outings, often as a false nine.
The Scaligeri Brazilian, meanwhile, is enjoying excellent form, scoring two goals and providing one assist in his last three games.
A potential signing of the 2003-born player, who arrived in Serie A this summer from Corinthians, would not rule out a move for Zirkzee, for whom Sporting Director Massara will continue negotiations in the coming weeks.
