Leon Bailey is no longer a Roma player.
The Jamaican winger left the capital after a disappointing spell, with Roma deciding to terminate his loan in advance.
As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, with Bailey back at Aston Villa, the Giallorossi have shifted their focus to Mathys Tel who is eager to leave Tottenham.
With the Jamaican’s departure, a spot in attack is freed up to pursue a right-footed attacking midfielder, the man Gian Piero Gasperini has been seeking since last summer. This is why Ricky Massara has returned to thinking about Mathys Tel, Tottenham’s talented Frenchman.
Tel was left out of the UEFA squad at the start of the season, only to be reinstated after Dominic Solanke’s ankle injury. The English striker is now available again, however, and Thomas Frank has decided to reciprocate: Solanke is back in and Tel is out.
This second exclusion has rekindled the Frenchman’s discomfort, partly due to his lack of use. Mathys Tel has played in 20 of 31 matches so far, starting only eight times and averaging 37.3 minutes per game.
And so Massara resumed conversations with the player’s entourage, who has once again requested a loan transfer, still hoping to secure a spot at the World Cup.
A six-month loan would be a good fit for Roma, especially since they’re currently dealing with Financial Fair Play regulations at Trigoria. However, the very wealthy Paris FC is also interested, which would allow the player to return to his homeland.
