Defensive solidity has restored Roma’s solidity and points.
In May, the Giallorossi were on the verge of achieving the impossible with a run at the Champions League that would have been historic thanks to their defensive defense.
From Claudio Ranieri to Gian Piero Gasperini, the Roman team has been the least beaten in the top five leagues in the first nine months of 2025, writes Corriere dello Sport.
Since Roma-Lazio, played on the eve of Epiphany, the Giallorossi have conceded only 11 goals.
Bologna and Atalanta have nicked the Roman fort twice in a single match, while against Milan, Juventus, Como, Genoa, Udinese, and Napoli, as well as in the derby, Mile Svilar has conceded just one goal.
To put things into context, in Italy only Napoli has come close, recording 15 clean sheets.
Abroad, the gap is less evident with Athletic Club, who have conceded just 16 goals.
In Spain, Barcelona and the two Madrid clubs are stuck with 22 clean sheets.
Ranieri was the first to prioritize defense, preferring to stay back rather than double the lead once the result was secured.
Gasperini has resumed his work, finding a compromise in his style of play. A high defense is fine, but no central defenders.
Now the coach must focus on Jan Ziolkowski and Daniele Ghilardi, who hopefully will be Roma’s future defensive pillars.
