Of Roma’s January transfer operations, Giacomo Raspadori is the one that has entered the most advanced phase.
As reported in today’s edition of Il Romanista, the striker has become a concrete priority for the Giallorossi club, especially in light of Lorenzo Pellegrini’s injury sustained in training, which forced him to sit out for approximately a month.
Despite their different profiles, Raspadori and Pellegrini currently occupy a similar tactical position on Roma’s roster: that of a left-sided striker. In this context, Raspadori’s arrival is seen as essential not only to address the emergency, but also to rebalance a squad that, numerically, risks being short in attack.
The request for reinforcements was also formalized by Gasperini to sporting director Massara in a recent meeting in Trigoria between the technical department and the ownership, with the recommendation to bring in at least two forwards and a defender from the January transfer window.
Negotiations with Atlético Madrid are now well underway. Roma initially offered a lower price, with a total valuation of around €18 million including the loan and option to buy, but the Spanish club responded with higher demands. However, the gap has gradually narrowed, and an agreement could be reached on an intermediate figure.
According to Il Romanista, the deal is expected to involve a loan worth around €1.5 million, accompanied by an option to buy set at around €17-18 million. The option to buy could become a mandatory option if two conditions are met: Roma’s qualification for next season’s Champions League and the player’s playing time of at least 60% of the season’s playing time.
The path appears clear and a deal is considered within reach, so much so that the deal could be finalized within the next few hours. Other attacking targets will have to wait, but Roma is ready to close on Raspadori.
