In recent hours, Fenerbahce has been stealing the dreams of many Roma fans who had pinned their hopes on the signing of Mason Greenwood.
When the Giallorossi are at the center of transfer window dramas, they tend not to close deals, and the English winger is further proof of this.
The 2001-born player’s agent, as soon as he sensed the possibility of sparking an auction, changed the cards on the table by raising his salary.
The Roman club already had a verbal agreement with the Marseille winger around €5 million, but Fenerbahce has changed the balance.
Roma has been clear with Greenwood’s agent: they have no intention of offering more than €5 million per season through transfer market auctions.
The reason is simple. As Il Messaggero reports, the Giallorossi club doesn’t want to run the risk of triggering a domino effect with some players, from Malen to Weslye, who could ask for a raise.
The management’s goal is to maintain the right balance within the dressing room without creating internal rifts.
Fenerbahce hasn’t had any qualms and has offered Greenwood a salary of €7 million per season, which he has already accepted. Now the ball is in the clubs’ court, and they need to reach an agreement that is very close.
