Roma faces two crucial matches for Europe and the league. Tomorrow evening, they face Europa League leaders Midtjylland at the Olimpico. Sunday evening, they face Conte’s Napoli.
The match against the Azzurri will serve to determine whether the Giallorossi can truly compete for top spots in Serie A.
After losing to Milan and Inter, Gasperini doesn’t want to mess up another head-to-head match.
First, however, they have to think about Midtjylland.
The Giallorossi, after losing to Viktoria Plzen and Lille, can no longer afford to slip up in the cup.
A win tomorrow night would put them one step closer to qualifying for the top eight, thus avoiding the playoffs in February.
Two more matches that could weigh on the Giallorossi’s form. Roma currently sits in 18th place with 6 points, with the Danes leading the way with 12.
Therefore Roma must beware of underestimating Midtjylland.
Gasperini knows this well, and for this reason he won’t overhaul his lineup. He’ll rotate, yes, but without taking risks. Hermoso, who will return to the starting lineup against Napoli, will certainly not be risked. This will give Ziolkowski a chance.
In midfield, Koné will rest, with El Aynaoui replacing him.
Up front, Ferguson will start in the center of the attack, along with Soulé and El Shaarawy.
Finally, Tsimikas is expected to rest Wesley.
All his best players will return against Napoli, starting with Dybala.
As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Argentine will play at least 20 minutes in the second half against the Azzurri. Baldanzi is expected to start, with Gasperini continuing to favor a lightweight, unsupported attacking trio over a central striker.
