Alessio Romagnoli should soon be back in Gennaro Gattuso’s squad at Lazio, with his move to Al-Sadd effectively off.
Gianluca Di Marzio and Alfredo Pedullà report that Claudio Lotito has rejected a request to push the payment date to January, and that the defender will rejoin his team-mates at Formello in the coming days.
Lazio had accepted a €3 million offer from the Qatari champions more than a month ago, but after weeks of delay the transfer faltered.
It emerged this week that Al-Sadd are currently unable to complete a transaction and asked for the deadline to be moved to January, possibly linked to the complicated situation in the Middle East and the ongoing war.
Romagnoli has already undergone the first part of his pre-season medicals. This would be another awkward return for the 32-year-old, who has said goodbye twice this year, first after the away match with Lecce at Via del Mare in January, then via a farewell message displayed during a large anti-Lotito protest earlier this month.
Pedullà adds that Atalanta are ready to accommodate the former AC Milan captain, reuniting him with Maurizio Sarri. However, at this stage he has no intention of taking another move in Italy, so will only consider offers from abroad.
