Lyon have signed Roman Yaremchuk on loan from Olympiacos until the end of the season, the club said in a statement, with an initial 1.5 million euros fee and a five million euros option to buy. He will work under head coach Paulo Fonseca.

On arrival, he expressed delight at reuniting with Clinton Mata from their Club Brugge days and noted his familiarity with Fonseca. The stadium atmosphere the previous night impressed him and he said he cannot wait to play in front of the supporters.

Fresh from a title in Greece, he has four goals and one assist this season. His European experience and involvement with Ukraine, alongside Anatoliy Trubin and Georgiy Sudakov, have been valued by the coach. The move offers a chance to relaunch his career in Ligue 1.

Lyon hope he can add attacking options and he could provide extra impetus in more demanding fixtures in Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Europa League.

Yaremchuk joined Benfica in 2021/22 from Gent for 17 million euros. He made 47 appearances, scoring nine goals and supplying five assists, and won the league title in 2022/23.
