Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir could be on his way out, but his move to Besiktas is no longer a forgone conclusion.
The 28-year-old joined the Premier League giants in the summer of 2023, completing a £4.6 million transfer from Fenerbahce.

Despite Andre Onana’s recurring howlers, the Turk was never able to cement himself a starting role. This season, he was given the nod in the early weeks of the campaign prior to Senne Lammens’ arrival and settlement, but he didn’t fully convince.
After three years as an understudy, Bayindir has been widely tipped to leave Man Utd in the summer in search of a more prominent role.
Besiktas have emerged as the ultimate favourites to bring the Bursa native back to his home country. The Istanbul-based giants even tried to acquire his services in January, but to no avail.

But according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bayindir’s move to Besiktas is no longer certain, especially following the recent managerial change.
“Altay Bayindir can leave Manchester United in the summer. Besiktas remain interested but deal depends on new manager after recent change of coach,” posted the transfer market expert on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
Besiktas have mutually parted ways with Sergen Yalçın, and the identity of his replacement remains uncertain.
During his time at Old Trafford, the Turkish international had his exploits, including a heroic FA Cup display against Arsenal last season. After that match, Mikel Arteta hailed Bayindir’s ‘outstanding’ performance between the posts. However, the goalkeeper’s heroics have been too few and far between.
Bayindir still has one year left on his contract, with an option for another, but it seems that an early divorce could be beneficial for both parties.
The question remains who would be Lammens’ understudy should his Turkish teammate depart in the summer.
Tom Heaton will soon pen a one-year extension, but the 40-year-old has only been the club’s third-choice goalkeeper since his return to Carrington in 2021.
Onana and Radek Vitek will return from their positive loan spells at Trabzonspor and Bristol City, respectively, but United don’t fancy keeping the Cameroonian at the club, while the 22-year-old Czech is reportedly seeking a first-choice role.
Therefore, the arrival of a new goalkeeper this summer cannot be ruled out.
