Romelu Lukaku officially joins Fenerbahce from Napoli | OneFootball

Romelu Lukaku has ended his Serie A stay after Napoli agreed to sell the Belgian striker to Fenerbahce for a reported €6m plus add-ons. According to Goal.com, the 33-year-old is set to fly to Istanbul this evening to finalise the move.

Napoli sanctioned his exit having already secured a long-term successor, completing the permanent signing of Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United for €44m (£38m) earlier in the window.

Lukaku's reduced fee reflects a desire to shed wages and prioritise younger talent such as Hojlund. Fitness problems and an unapproved training stint in Belgium last spring, which prompted disciplinary warnings from sporting director Giovanni Manna, helped accelerate his departure to Türkiye.

He joins an ambitious Fenerbahce rebuild in the Super Lig. The Istanbul club have already added defender Nathan Ake from Manchester City, Mason Greenwood from Marseille, and Vedat Muriqi after his 23-goal La Liga season with Real Mallorca.

The move offers Lukaku a clean slate after a campaign limited to just seven appearances for Napoli by injuries. He proved his sharpness with Belgium, featuring in all six matches and scoring three goals as they reached the World Cup quarter-finals this summer.

The switch follows Antonio Conte's departure, the coach who has often drawn the best from Lukaku at Chelsea, Inter and Napoli. Together they won the 2024-25 Serie A title in Naples with the striker scoring 14 league goals, and his prolific Inter spell of 34 then 30 goals preceded a £97.5m return to Chelsea.
